I am a twenty eighty year old graduate of the University at Albany where I received my Bachelors in English Lit. in 2011. I have no previous teaching or tutoring experience but that does not mean I lack the knowledge or skill necessary to help one learn and grow. I am an avid reader and aspiring writer and try to put thought to paper every day.
I have often thought about becoming a teacher and have been told by friends, families and previous instructors in my own learning I would make a good one but I feel my personality would be better served in a more laid back and less rigid atmosphere. When it comes to reading, I believe most of all in creating an interest for the subject. That goes for all ages. I encourage students to bring reading materials that peek their interest to help them enjoy while learning. For some students that would be fiction, for others it's a game manual. The idea is to start where the child's curiosity lays and move from there into the required readings. For older students there are clear step-by-step ways to understand how to analyze text, come up with a thesis and how to write a focused essay.
