More About This Tutor...

I believe that every student has the ability to learn. Teachers must take the time to discover the individual needs of students in order to help all students be successful. I strive to provide individualized instruction in all areas and for all children. I firmly believe in involving a child's parents in all aspects of their education. Parents are a child's first teachers!
I have been teaching students with special needs for the past 14 years. I have experience with preschool through 6th grade. I also worked at Sylvan Learning Center, where I worked with students through 12th grade. I especially enjoy working with students with Learning Disabilities, lower cognitive abilities, and children on the Autism Spectrum. I am trained in a reading program for children with Dyslexia. Academic Associates Reading Center

I am am a certified Reading Instruction Specialist and former fourth grade teacher. Most students rise 2-4 grade levels in under 50 hours of instruction using the Academic Associates Reading Program. The Academic Associates curriculum is a 13 lesson brain-based phonics curriculum. One of my favorite success stories is a student I'll call Mark. After completing only 7 lessons, Mark went from a 1.9 reading level to a 3.5 reading level. Because of his previous struggles in reading, the school he attended planned to retain him in the second grade. After only 2 months of instruction, the school called his mother to let her know that he would not be retained because of the remarkable improvement in his reading. Learning to read properly not only helped improve his grade, but prevented his being held back. I fully believe everyone can learn to read well if given the proper tools to do so. C ... read more

You can do anything you set your mind to!

I have tutored kids at my Church whenever someone has needed help. I am very patient and understanding of how frustrating certain topics can be, so I know I am a great candidate for tutoring. I am exceptionally great with younger kids who have ADD or ADHD since I have struggled with that myself. I know exactly how it feels to have a hard time focusing, so I would really be able to help any child with this struggle.

I enjoy working with all students. I believe the greatest experience is learning from the students. All children are unique and have different views of recieving what is being taught. I believe that it is my duty to seek ways to help that child reach his/her highest potenials. I demand high expectations and values from each student. I have a driven determination in providing my best to each student. I may not reach all as desired but, it is my goal to provide my best.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a well educated, award winning educator who has successfully taught a multitude of academic subjects in to students in grades ranging from kindergarten through the eight grade! In addition to this, I have also received extra training in teaching math, science and technolgy. The training that I have received has allowed me completely engage my students in meaningful learning activities; which has resulted in my students gaining at least a years worth of growth on all state and national test. Lastly, please note that the increase in my students test scores occurred with students in an inclusion classroom, with the most academically, socially, and emotionally needy students in our school building, for the grade in which I taught!

A Little Bit About Me...

Most of my experience is working with students who have issues beyond a normal student whether it be learning disabilities, behavior problems,or emotional/phsychological issues. I have taught in many alternative school settings, but I have also taught in main stream schools, both public and private. I have successfully taught students to read and write when the system had given up on them, and on the flip side of the coin, I have taught advanced placement/honors students. I have taught grades seven through twelve.
I believe that learning needs to be fun, but that students need, and most of the time want, structure in their classrooms. I believe that learning needs to be relevant to students. They need to know why and where in their lives they will need or be using what they are being taught. I use a variety of instuctional methods while teaching (lecture, discussions, group activiti ... read more

I am an active teacher, especially when allowed to create my own curriculum. I love to incorporate lectures with powerpoints, videos with discussions, and book readings with field trips. I think the best way to get young people involved in learning is to keep their minds thinking and never reach the point of predictability. The last thing people accuse me of is monotony or predictability, and it is this very quality that keeps then engaged and makes me a very likable and successful educator.
I received a bachelors degree in both history and sociology which gave me the credentials to teach Sociology 101 classes at the college level while attaining my masters degree, which I then used to teach as an instructor for nine months at two separate colleges. I am finishing up my second masters degree, and want nothing more than to share the knowledge I have learned with others.

More About This Tutor...

I earned both of my degrees while working and caring for very young children. I feel this was possible because of my time management skills and determination to see a task through to completion. I have worked in the accounting or banking industry for over thirty years and truly love working with numbers. I fell in love with accounting in high school, finishing the semester project in about a month and a half and never looked back. I also feel that many of the concepts that accounting teaches are valuable in life even if accounting is not the career path chosen.
During high school, my teacher requested that I help others in my class and I realized how much I loved helping others understand how accounting works. Also in helping my children with their school work, I have learned that each child is different and learns in different ways. I would describe my style of teaching as fi ... read more

I love working with adolescents. I believe with all of my heart that each teen has the ability to accomplish great things with the proper motivation. I truly believe that children, teens as well as adults learn best by doing. I do not believe in teaching to a particular topic. I believe in teaching to the student and how the individual student learns. I want each one of my student's to succeed in their school environment as well as in their lives.

A Little Bit About Me...

I like to take a 'backdoor' approach with my students by creating activities that are interesting and fun. I think this helps in changing the student's attitude from a negative to a positive one. I do believe everyone can learn and that it is my job to help facilitate this. I like to vary my teaching style while using interactive, kinetic, audial, visual and explorer type methods. This helps me find what works for individual students. I'm energetic but patient and positive. I think it is important to encourage a student's effort not just his/her outcome.

I believe all students can learn any material, but it’s up to teachers, parents and schools to work together to come up with the best educational plan to make sure that they do. Therefore, I prefer the collaborative and community language learning model. Since all students possess many different levels of strengths and weaknesses, I demonstrate several strategies, and allow them to choose the one that works best for them. It gives me a better idea of how to teach the whole child.
Since I have completed degrees in English, and Education with a Literacy specialization, I am more than qualified to teach/tutor students in English/LA and Reading. Additionally, I've passed the Praxis II Exam that the State of Alabama requires to "highly qualify" teachers. A Little Bit About Me...

Children are one of the greatest joys in life because I get to watch them learn and understand the world around them. Children are sponges that soak up all the knowledge present to them. My teaching style is hands on. I want children to learn not just by a book but by practical application. When children discover material through experiences they are more likely to remember and be better prepared for life.
I am driven by knowledge, the more knowledge I have the more I can relate to people from all walks of life. I have always been fascinated most by science and psychology. I studied biology, chemistry and psychology in college and earned a bachelors degree in Psychology. Through this I have acquired grammatical skills on how to write research papers and lab reports. I taught a study tactics course for a year and a half that focused on chemistry. This gave me the advantage to not ... read more
