I am very passionate about teaching. I am a very hands-on type of teacher that really likes to get the student involved in their learning. I like to set goals for learning, but also find it important for students to set their own goals as well. I believe that all children can learn, no matter what. It is just my job as a teacher to be able to help figure out their best way to learn as well as bring those resources to that student for their success.
I graduated National-Louis University with a 3.7 GPA, and am also in the Kappa Delta Pi honors society for teaching. I truly enjoy helping children reach their full potential. I believe that children who don't understand a subject just haven't had it explained to them in their way of learning and I believe I can find their way. I use patience, understanding, and humor to ease their minds but still am able to convey a sense of high expectation of them. Then, I explain concepts to them in a variety of ways until they can comprehend the subject manner. This includes using diagrams, creating a real-life situations where the concept is applied, drawing analogies that to which they can relate, or developing a game out of the lesson. In the end, it is their success that is my true reward.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that each child/adult has a learning style unique to them. Finding what works and what makes learning fun, to me, are critical to success, especially to struggling learners. Positive reinforcement and encouragement are critical, as well.
My background includes teaching at the elementary level and at the adult education level, especially literacy. I spent 10 years directing an adult literacy program where I trained volunteers to be tutors and tutored myself. During that time I took an intensive training course on working with people with learning disabilities. I have worked with ESOL students, as well.

My goal is to enhance the knowledge of children through the implementation of their best learning style (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, or tactile) and to motivate the students to pursue further learning and personal experience in the topic we are studying. I treat my clients with respect and ask for it in return.
