Starting off teaching ABC's then working your way up the ladder with whole words and sentences.
I've been doing sign language for 18 years, I have a brother and sister who are deaf and thats how I became skilled. I enjoy doing sign language and tutoring people who are willing to learn it. I've taught other family members, friends, even students from school. Whenever someone notices me doing sign language they always come near me and ask me to teach them. I sign very fluently, many people think I am deaf because they see how fast I sign. I am always willing to meet new people and share my skills with them. Its always fun to learn new things.

It is best to learn sign language in person. Signs are done from the hands and facial expressions and is best learned in person.
Being a CODA, child of deaf adults, has allowed me to be fluent in mine and my parent's native language of American Sign Language. Through my 13 years of professional work in the sign language field, I have tutored and taught sign language and have mainly worked as a sign language interpreter for the Deaf and hearing community. Currently and for all of my professional years of interpreting, I have worked in the educational setting interpreting for mainstreamed Deaf and hard of hearing students at both high school and college level. There are many things that I have to offer a student interested in learning sign, the language itself and also the culture associated with American Sign.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have taught myself ASL for the last 4 years, and only recently took a class. I was too advanced for the class, and all the other classes offered, and now I meet with my teacher once a week to practice. I am in college to become an ASL Interpreter. Aside from the language itself, I also know a lot about deaf culture and I am more that happy to tutor for either subject.

I enjoy teaching others but I am most satisfied when they are learning and enjoying learning. I have fun with my students. From my experience I’ve learned that the best way to learn something is to explain and teach it to someone else. This is one of the methods that I use with my students. It helps me to identify the areas that they lack understanding and presents an opportunity for me to correct and teach. It also builds their confidence in their knowledge. When working with my students I have noticed that the most important part of the teaching process is to help them to overcome their intimidation and lack of confidence in their ability to conquer the material so it is important for me to not only teach them the material, but to build their confidence as I am teaching. I know that I have been successful when not only do my students grasp and master the material, but they do it with c ... read more
