A Little Bit About Me...

I am a rising senior at Harvard University where I study Human Evolutionary Biology with an emphasis on behavior and a secondary in Music. I am home for the summer whilst working on my thesis on the evolutionary origins of music in response to war, protest, and strike. I am excited to tutor while home. I can offer services in preparation for the ACT and SAT subject tests—what's needed for entrance into most private colleges. The subject tests I took as a high schooler were chemistry, molecular biology, and math II. I can also help with high school subjects, and I would love to help with French.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have always enjoyed assisting our youth work through various academic endeavors. I have been tutoring grades k-12 for several years now. I have helped all ages with a wide variety of assignments.
My teaching style varies based on the age of the student. I like to be a little more animated with my k-6 graders. On the other hand, with my 7-12 graders I focus more so on making a connection with the material--showing them how it relates to them.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have spent 10 years in college academia resulting in a PhD as my terminal degree. Through my studies, I have acquired an in-depth knowledge of statistics, molecular biology, genetics, ecology, and bioinformatics to complete this degree. During my time in college, I also routinely volunteered as an undergraduate tutor in genetics, statistics, and basic biology. I also taught several labs in ecology.
I am a firm believer in relating material to real-world examples. I have found that many students are over-whelmed by material and do not see any application for the material, and thus they do not have the desire needed to absorb the material. I strive to make the material fun and break it down to small units so that it is easily absorbed.

I love teaching and working with all children. My experience as a tutor has taught me how to help your child find academic success and my experience as a camp counselor and youth group leader has taught me how to relate to your child so that I can teach him or her how to learn in an enjoyable and effective manner. My experience has taught me to be patient, easy going, and considerate. I believe all children can meet their potential if they are given the appropriate surroundings and learning experiences. A Little Bit About Me...

I love teaching and working with children. I find that they are fun to talk to and that each one has a different learning process. I like tutoring better than teaching in a large group, as tutoring allows students to receive one on one attention. My goal is to provide the best education possible in my allotted time periods. I am a student myself, and will be for quite some time. I understand how to study, and how to relay information to others effectively. I am also very patient and understanding. I won't give up on someone, and can dedicate as much time as needed to them. I also have a flexible schedule, and can meet at almost any time needed.
My background is fairly well-rounded. In high school I went to the Governor's School for Science and Mathematics (GSSM) and tutored high school students in the community in math and reading, as well as ESL. Also, part of the GSSM curriculum ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I recognize that each student learns differently. It is important to me to assses the style that is best for the student. I will always differentiate the way I teach to the benefit of the pupil. If a student needs more visual aid and description, that is how I will teach them. If a different student needs manipulatives or prefers auditory lessons, I will provide that for them. The way I teach my students is the way that they learn best. If they do not learn in the way of their appropiate learning style it will not be as effective
I have seven years experience as an electrical engineer. I love my job but I also love working with and helping students achieve. My wife is a high school English teacher and she has many students that will often need my help with math and sciences. I enjoy being able to work with children and being able to positively impact their lives whether that be through empowering them to succeed or teaching new skills. Throughout my graduate studies I worked as a substitute teacher from grades pre-k-12; however I especially enjoyed working with younger children as it allows for more creativity and thinking outside of the box. I would consider myself to be very patient, open-minded and understanding of every individual's needs. I understand the fact that everyone has a different learning style and would be able to adapt to the individual. I prefer hands-on activities and using creative outlets to convey educational information as it often allows for easier absorption of material.

More About This Tutor...

I graduated from the University of South Alabama with a degree in Elementary Education grades K-6. While in school I worked at Sylvan Learning Centers to earn a little extra money. I have taught Kindergarten for 3 years. All of my students were successful.
All children can learn, but in different ways. As a teacher I had to figure out the various ways that my students learned and incorporated that into my lessons. I did a lot of small group teaching and hands on activities. I always did whatever I needed to do in order for my children to be successful.

I believe that Math is a subject of concepts and if the concepts are clear than any body can do math. Making concepts clear depends on the teacher who analyze the understading of each individual and teaches him accordingly.
As a Math graduate, I wanted to remove hesitation and fear of students for this subject and I became a Math tutor. I have taught advance Math (Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus) at High Schools and also done tutoring for these subjects. During last 8 years many of my students improved their performance and now they have become Engineers. I have also tutored students in Physics.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love teaching and working with children, I believe all children can learn, but in different ways. Each child should be able to feel like they have academic success, even if it is not the same as other students. I believe students must do thier best and to get there they might learn it in a different way. I like to use real life to show way it is important to unerstand skills, and I give them 2 or 3 way to get the same answer. I am patient, loving, caring, and devoted. My goal is to help students reach their academic success. I have worked for AmeriCorps for the last 2 years tutoring in Grenada schools, and a few good educators can make a difference in a child's education.
