Tap instructor looking for driven students

I have 20 years of dance experience. I specialize in tap, jazz, ballet and hip hop. I have 3 years of tap dancing experience in New York city in an off roadway show called Slide. I currently teach youth in the public schools as well as at a local studio. I teach private lessons currently at my parents home by will have my own location in downtown grand rapids later this summer.
I like to focus on rhythms and understanding tap dancing from a musical aspect. I use creative methods to teach students.

At Hope College I received a liberal arts education. So even though I have a degree in music theatre, I am also well-educated in other fields. For instance I wasn't required to take Calculus in college, however, I took this challenging course and I passed the class with an A. I have also worked at the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre as a teacher’s assistant and camp assistant the past three summers. These camps work with kids from ages 9-13. Along with looking out for the safety of the children, I participated in activities and helped come up with material. I have also worked as a director, producer, and a choreographer. Al though I have never technically tutored or taught a child writing, I am interested in helping aid a child's learning experience. I love teaching children and working with children's choirs. I had some very fine education classes at Aquinas. I'm very intuitive with children. While you must objectively assess the childs level, you must also be intuitive. The teacher has to tap into the innate knowledge and then approach the method of teaching in the way that child can hear you. I am 47 and a mother of an 11 yr. old. I am patient and kind with children, but overall, what comes through is my whimsical, comical, spontaneous nature. Children take to it because I'm also intelligent as opposed to "clownish". I'm also fairly firm. They have to practice and I know how to motivate them for that. I have high standards for children.
