A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy teaching students of all ages.I do not have a set teaching style. I use several methods during our tutoring sessions. I believe that each student is unique and they have their own method of learning information. I help the student identify this method and we work together to expand the student’s knowledge in the given subject. During high school I worked as a volunteer in St. Petersburg, Florida through All Children’s Hospital. Within the Bedside Buddies Program, I was able to spend over 200 hours working with physically and mentally challenged children to maintain their grades when they were experiencing long staying in the hospital. With this experience under my belt, I pursued my degree in psychology, achieving a BS rather than a BA to exhibit my proficiency for the mathematics and sciences. My teaching style is flexible. Students learn in different ways and at different paces. It is my job to discover how the students learn and what they respond best to. For some subjects, repetition is very important and for others a clearer understanding of the concepts involved is more valuable. I like to start with small skills and build on them.

I am very aware that everyone learns at different levels and in different ways. I am observant and mindful of this in teaching. I have worked with children with special needs for many years. Also, teaching ESL has helped me become a strong teacher because it has made me excellent with non verbal communication. It is important to have a stimulating environment for students.
