I am a graduate of an accelerated program called the Cooperative Developmental Energy Program, which is a program that focuses only on the math and science fields and also required me to earn my BS in 3 years while maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or above. In addition, I have worked as a childcare provider during the summers at a daycare center where I was required to help create and carry out lesson plans to ensure that the children did not lose what they had learned during the school year.

I have been working with children of and on all my life. My credentials are personal as well as professional. From a personal perspective, I have a child with autism for which I have spent many hours tutoring in the afternoons. I also have another daughter, who has struggled in school. What I have learned working with students is that many do not learn in the same manner. I beleive in what is called top process learning. Given the student a concept and allowing them to explore the possibilities of how one arrives at such a concept has allowed deeper critical thinking and strategic planning. However, this method is not predominately taught in Georgia education system. I have found this method to be very effective. The other method is patience. Students who strugge with their academic learning usually are having other areas of difficulty which may be social learning. Having clinical training allows me to make a more accurate assessment.

I have earned a BA in Language Arts, but also hold a passion for math as well. I have excellent reading and writing skills, and am familiar with the Georgia CRCT testing. In high school, I was the typical overachiever. I played varsity baseball, led many school organizations, and was at the top of my class. School, especially math subjects, came easy to me, but that is not the case with everyone. Therefore, I wanted to find a way to help students in these areas. During sophomore year, I was approached by high school administration to tutor students, on a one-on-one basis after school, on math subjects. It was an amazing opportunity because only four students out of the entire student body were picked for this highly-selective position. My teaching style is based on the student’s learning style. Each child is different and may require different teaching methods to facilitate learning. Some children are more visual and may require more interactive exercises to learn. I do not believe in spoon-feeding information to children but taking the time to ensure that they fully grasped the concept of a problem and are able to think through a solution on their own.
