My teaching style evolved to be well-structured but informal and entertaining. I am a comfortable and natural speaker and have had little trouble engaging the majority of students to be active participants in the classroom. However, my approach to the material is flexible and will vary considerably with the subject. In tutoring, I tailor the approach to the student, and attempt to achieve an active learning environment by engaging the interest of the student. For instance, in teaching writing and composition, this can be accomplished by letting the students play a role in choosing the subject material.

I have been educating people since 1987. I began in music education, which I taught successfully for 9 years, and also taught piano lessons. I then worked in special education for 1 year as an educational technician, where I tutored math, reading, and students with severe disabilities. I continued on a transitional certificate teaching elementary grades two and four, and most recently have taught post-secondary medical assisting students at a post secondary institution as well as teaching night courses in adult education in medical terminology and medical transcription. This means looking at things from the student's perspective and communicating effectively with the student to determine where help is needed and how to provide it.
