Psychology Professor/Reading Specialist

Over 25 years of teaching experience (all grade levels ~ from preschool to university graduate level courses). Very patient teacher. Makes learning fun.

I worked in the education field for over 10 years. Teaching elementary students. English, math,reading, spelling, science , and history. I myself have three sons who I helped through school. They each did very well. I have taken many classes on teaching. I have helped many person to learn English.
Depends on student. Use visual as well as hard copy. Will to work with the student to determine the best way they learn. Will sit down with student and determine the best style of teaching for them.

A Little Bit About Me...

Since I have entered the teaching profession I have worked with children of all elementary levels. This experience has provided me with the tools to work with all types of children from grades K-5. Since I have graduated from IUP I have worked primarily in an urban setting which has afforded me the opportunity to work with children of various backgrounds from affluent to homeless. I have done various forms of tutoring in Reading and Math in preparation for the state administered tests.
My ability to break things down to a level where students can understand more thoroughly has always been a string point for me. I work well as a one on one special education aide because my attention is soley on the activities and education of my students. I am a laid back worker, and extremely patient because I find that if I allow myself to get out of shape, then I am not an effective teacher and aide, and my students will see this. I strive to be a good role model to them all, even when I may be frustrated but I find constructive ways of venting such as listening to music during class quiet times and taking walks with my students during activity breaks and while they are in PE.
I have worked for one school year as a substitute for both Hanover County and Louisa County, I am Currently employed by Hanover County Public Schools as a teaching assistant while continuing my work on my graduate work. I will still be employed by hanover County Schools for the 2009-2010 School year.
