My teaching style is adaptive. I believe everyone has the capacity to learn. The approach to learning is what makes the difference. Being a mother, I love children and am very patient. I also know that kids have their own distinct personalities and I address each child as an individual person, with their own talents and ideas. There is nothing better than when a person's face lights up, young or old, when they "get it." Knowing you have impacted a person, potentially for the rest of their life, is a reward in and of itself. The pay that comes attached to it is the bonus.

I graduated from UNCW in December 2008 with a BA in Elementary Education. I have worked in the New Hanover County school system for 5 years. Four of those years I was a teacher assistant and this last year I have been teaching 4th and 5th grade students.

I love teaching all grades and levels. The most important aspect of teaching is to know your student. Each individual learns in different ways, some are tactile learners, some are visual, and some are auditory learners. Incorporating all aspects into my teaching style assists the retention of the material. It also has to be relatable to the student, so we have to use relevant examples that they understand. All children can learn any subject if you can spark their interest. There is no better feeling than seeing the light turn on and the sense of accomplishment in a child's eyes.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe in trying to incorporate each learning style into my teaching plan. This means that I use lecture, reading assignments, and hands-on learning to accomplish this. My main focus is to make learning matter. I have often been heard using the phrase..."So What?" I ask that question because I firmly believe that effective learning not only teaches the what...but also the why. I want students to be able to apply their learning.
