A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated summa cum laude from Berea College with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. I haven taken many courses in biology and chemistry. I am also very proficient in algebra and trigonometry, and I have taken one course in calculus. As a high school student I worked in an after school program tutoring children in grades 3 to 8 in reading and math. During college I volunteered in “one-on-one tutoring” where I met weekly with a student to tutor her in basic math. I also worked as a teaching assistant in the biology department of my college.
My teaching style varies depending on the age and needs of the student. When I worked with younger children, I often made up a game to help the children learn the material while having fun. I strive for efficiency in teaching style, but I realize the importance of studying each student to see what motivates each one to take the next step closer to the goal. It is not enough for me to simply disseminate information. I believe it is vital that the student understands what she or he needs to know. In a tutoring situation, I feel that, within reason, enough time should be taken to allow each student to absorb, apprehend and apply the knowledge in practical ways.
