Keep calm and teach on!

I recently completed student teaching requirements for Kansas and will have my degree conveyed shortly. I chose to be a teacher as my second career. I have always wanted to teach and love working with children. I spent 18 years working for full time for the Kansas National guard. I worked in Logistics for 13 years, then I worked as a budget analyst for the KSARNG for 5 years. I am a veteran who has traveled all over. A Little Bit About Me...

I currently am a substitute teacher for all grades from 1st grade to high school. I started this avocation after spending 27 years in the Finance and Accounting areas. I have an MBA from the University of Kansas. One of the gifts God has given me is the ability to help others reach their potential. When teaching, I am quite often able to explain difficult subjects to students in a way that is easier for them to understand.
I believe that if a student wants to learn a subject and is willing to put forth the effort, that student has the tools to succeed. Quite often they just need help in "how" to learn. There are a lot of subjects that are intimidating to students. I like to demystify and simplify the subject so that the student has a greater chance for success.

From very early on I have been drawn toward teaching. As a student I was a tutor for many of the classes I took. I tutored Chemistry I, Beginner and Intermediate Algebra as well as a number of Accounting classes. When I graduated I immediately began looking for positions that would enable me to teach. Since I've been tutoring I've helped around 50 students individually and have developed different teaching styles to suit different students. I am aware that each person learns material in a different manner so the teaching style must be adapted to suit their individual needs. I am patient and friendly and more than capable of explaining material so that students are able to grasp it.
