I am a Dartmouth Undergraduate Student. I have been tutoring math since high school, and have doner peer tutoring at the College level as well. This will be my 6th year tutoring. I am very experienced with all levels from 2nd grade to sophomore in College. I speciailize in SAT Math, Calculus, and Geometry.

I have a passion for teaching but waited until I gained some "real world" experience. I found that this has helped me relate to my students since I am able to make meaningful connections to their learning. I like to discover what my students already know about the topic and to expose any misconceptions. Brainstorming activities work well for me. I like to help define the topic in common terms, not the classic dictionary method. I use presentation, discussion, videos and hands on activities. Most of what I do is inquiry based.

I've had a deep enthusiasm for mathematics and physics since an early age, when my father, a professor of physics at Dartmouth College, introduced me to the beauty and elegance of the principles underlying these fields. During my junior and senior years at Hanover High, I took courses for credit in both areas, and continued those studies at Princeton University, although ultimately I settled in a degree in psychology. After graduation, I spent one year teaching high school level mathematics at The Mountain School in Vershire, Vermont, before beginning a career in software engineering. One way to inspire a student in these fields is to touch their sense of awe and amazement, another is to instill an appreciation for the usefulness and practicality of what is being taught. With either approach, it is helpful to gain an understanding of the student's interests, attitudes and learning style.

My teaching style is informal , taking the students from "where they are" to "where they should be". I have had good results tutoring and teaching students from the Middle-School through the Adult levels. My greatest satisfaction comes when math-challenged students finally "see the light". I am a retired District Manager for Verizon. I taught High School Math for three years, then tutored high school math for four. I earned two bachelors' degrees from Norwich University in 2011. I graduated with a BS in Sports Medicine Athletic Training and a BS in Sports Medicine Health Sciences with minors in Biology, Chemistry, and Physical Education Health. I excelled and enjoyed the information that was taught to me, particularly in the fields of chemistry and math. Although I have no formal tutoring or teaching experience in the typical classroom setting, I have done plenty of informal teaching.
