Chess is one of my top subjects! 2. I have designed and taught chess classes for both children and adults. The age of students ranges from about five years through senior adults. One-on-one personal chess instruction has also been provided for those age ranges as well. With long term experience, I have founded or co-founded successful scholastic and community-based chess clubs. Students with a wide variety of backgrounds and mental skills have been instructed on topics from the basics through tournament success. 3. Instruction development includes class material, forms and PowerPoint presentations. I have developed various techniques targeted to the audience to enhance their ease of understanding and enjoyment of the game. Documents designed include instructional materials, hand-outs, tests, problems sets, and other chess related items. 4. Everyone learns differently. I think by involving as many of your senses you are able to learn and retain information better. Teaching information and giving examples that are relavent to the student's life and experiences help teach the student that learning is important.The advances in technology and utilizing these resources are very important. My passion is sharing my knowledge with others. I studied at Kent State in Kent, Ohio. While at Kent I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science, and a minor in English with extensive course work in business. Following undergraduate study, I ventured on to complete a Master of Arts in Physical Education. My concentration was Therapeutic Recreation with a focus in gerontology. I taught a class during my graduate assistanceship and acted as a teaching assistant to three professors.
Me teaching style is similar to my leadership style, democratic. I like to have students explain what they are thinking when approaching a problem. This way, it is possible to determine where the breakdown may be. Examples, definitions, and sometimes taking a step back can make a significant difference when attempting to move forward. A strong base is vital.
