My comments on tutoring Elementary Science : Science is great, and it's important to get kids interested in it early. Science can be brought to life by making connections between what is happening in class to what is happening in real life. Science concepts can be learned through concept maps, chants, rhymes, and various hands-on activities. I blew some 6th graders away by spontaneously setting Newton's 3 laws of motion to a jazz rap. Learning really can be fun.

I am very active in the classroom and I believe in making learning fun and enjoyable. There are so many ways to help children learn, yet many of them are not used for one reason or another. If information must be memorized, I like to put it to song or a rap. Other methods of learning that are very useful are concept maps, discussions, and performing. Another very successful method that I've employed is having the student actually teach me rather than me teach the student. It is VERY effective.

A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated from Morehead State University with a BS in Chemistry and a Geology minor in 1996. I used this degree to obtain work in my field, and outside of my field for the past 14 years. I have strong, hands-on experience with Chemistry principles and have experienced them on a daily basis for over 5 years. I also have experience working in a customer support role and have been responsible for helping people of all ages and backgrounds solve problems in a quick, and effective manor. In all, I feel I have learned how to help all different types of people solve problems in an effective and respectful way.
Patience and listening are the two most valuable parts of my teaching style. No one learns well in a hostile or rushed environment. I believe that the potential is there for all to learn even the most difficult subject matter and it is truly a joy to see the light of underst ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

The extent of my teaching experience was in rural Kentucky where I functioned as a substitute teacher for Beaver Dam, Kentucky schools, both for the elementary and high schools. I have a great desire to work one on one with children again in order to help them with their learning skills, social skills and self-esteem building, all of which are related to being on equal ground with their peers in school. Life has only now allowed me the opportunity to seek such avenues. I would be very interested in continuing my own education to better my qualifications, and am very open to counsel.
I am a firm believer that everyone learns in a different way, given different brain functioning, personality etc. Each child has different levels of attention, and differing strengths and weaknesses, which need to be pinpointed. My approach is very loving and casual, and I always can find a wa ... read more

As the daughter of an illerate parent, I have learned the value of being able to read and that of an education. My education is the second most important thing to me. I am the single mother of two children, in order to support them while attaining my degree I cleaned houses. This experience only solidified , in my mind, the importance of education. While pursuing my degree in English, I learned how to communicate my thoughts through writing and researching for various papers in different subjects. The paper writing process has taught me to constantly work on grammatical and research skills. While attainging my education I tutored students in English, Literature and writing. I also was chosen to do an internship for a Princeton Graduate as her teaching assistant for English 101.

My teahing style is to include each student in the process of learning. I do this by getting to know their strengths and weaknesses. My students are aware of their individual responsibility and I develop their desire for success by encouraging them to seek out this knowledge. I use a variety of hands-on lessons that makes understanding a concept or a skill easier due to the knowledge they already possess. Throughout my professional relationships I have allowed for "safe" failure so that the sudent is aware when they achieve success. This combination makes the student secure in their abilities. Each student requires a constructive academic program coupled with diversity of learning environments; I provide this type of teaching.

A Little Bit About Me...

I try a variety of approaches to see what works with each student. If you have 25 students in a class, you can have 25 different learning styles. I believe a lot in hands-on and learning from others. Questions are always welcome. I continually do course work to keep up on new approaches. Being teachable is key. I have seen students I work with have success. These students range from the gifted to the so-called difficult child. I love all types and really get a joy out of seeing them succeed.

My objective is to help people reach their highest potential while maintaining a deameanor of patience, encouragement, and belief.
