My comments on tutoring Marine Biology : While I have never taught marine biology specifically, in my graduate studies I took courses that covered invertebrates, animal behavior, ecology, and evolution. While I may not have abundant knowledge of marine life, the concepts applied to the study of it are the same as those in my studies.

The defining characteristic of my teaching method, whether in a classroom or tutoring individual students, is fostering a respectful and comfortable learning environment. I believe that the foundation for this environment is created by establishing small, personal connections with the student. I try to take every opportunity to get to know a student’s’ personal interests. This allows me to choose meaningful examples and metaphors that students will be more likely to understand and remember. It also makes study sessions engaging and conversational which always benefits learning, in my experience. Organizational skills are essential to learning and I always address this component at the start of working with a student. A Little Bit About Me...

I have always enjoyed working with children, especially in a school setting. I am very good at working one-on-one with people and tailoring my communication and teaching style to best fit the student or listener. I am very keen at ascertaining the needs and personalities of many different people and I am very patient and adept at listening. I enjoy seeing a child's eyes light up once he or she has grasped a difficult concept or conquered a tough subject.
