American History is one of my top subjects! I have taken many classes in American history, have traveled to many historically significant sites throughout the United States, and did my student teaching in an 8th grade American history class.

My teaching style consists of a combination of direct instruction, active student participation, and frequent and differentiated assessment. I begin by presenting students with the information they will need to know for the unit that they are studying. I do this through the use of PowerPoint presentations, the SmartBoard, and video clips. I will often stop at several points throughout the lesson to see if students have any questions. I will also make sure that they are paying attention and will ask them questions about information they just learned, so I expect them to be paying attention and taking notes. I have been tutoring for many years with different kinds of children. To begin with, I tutored my younger sister starting when she was about seven years old to age twelve or thirteen. In high school, I also volunteered for an after-school program for Hispanic children ages seven-twelve where I helped them with their homework in various subjects. Over the course of my career, I have taught at just about every level, from middle school to graduate school. My degree in English at Rhodes meant that I studied a wide variety of literature, taking both analytical courses and courses that encouraged me to take what I learned from these writers and apply it to my own writing, further developing my skills as a writer, both creatively and as an analytical thinker.
