After completing my undergraduate degree in English Literature at Florida State University, I worked as a substitute teacher in Hillsborough County for two years. In 2009, I completed my Master's Degree in Communication at University of South Florida while simultaneously employed at the Department of Special Education. I have been tutoring with Advanced Learners for 1 year and am currently an Adjunct Instructor of Public Speaking at HCC Dale Mabry.
Once while subbing, I entered a classroom where the students had been allowed to watch Jerry Springer on TV for the last two weeks. I couldn't let this continue, but I saw how emotional the class was about the show. I encouraged them to write their own talk show and told them we would perform it the next day. I find that connecting student's interest with the subject matter to be learned is the best way to teach.

Reading is the first step to a successful school career.

I have been in the child care field for over 25 years. I have 4 children of my own. I am currently attending HCC in pursuit of my bachelors degree in elementary education. I have been the director of a local child care center and am currently the VPK teacher. I am responsible for the education of these 20 children to ensure that they are ready to enter Kindergarten. I teach phonics, letter recognition, simple math, and introduce the children to science. These children will leave my room knowing how to write their names, recognize the alphabet, and being able to count to at least 31. Most can count to 100. My comments on tutoring Elementary : Certified teacher for the state and currently teaching for six years.

I am certified teacher and have taught for the school district for six years. I have taught kindergarten for two years and first grade for four years. My first two years of teaching first grade I worked with retained and struggling students in reading, math and writing. I also was an instructor of the district's after school program where I was able to work with students K-5 to provide homework and tutoring assistance.
