Most of my experience stems from my Bachelor of Arts degree at Wartburg College, Waverly, IA. As a Biology major, I have a good background in Life Sciences and Math. I have several study techniques that helped me succeed in college, as well as my current career as a Scientist Integrated DNA technologies in Coralville, IA. Some of my past experiences include working at a summer camp for two years as well as two years in an Emergency Room at a small hospital. I believe the best way to learn is peer-to-peer learning. As an auto-didact I have the study skills necessary to regurgitate information as taught by the current institutional models. This is an uncreative and highly unnatural way to learn. There's a reason no major discovery was made in a classroom -- true innovation, discovery and learning is an organic process.
I'm a student at Augustana College whose academic record has ranged from public school to home schooling to community college and and even private education. I've worked as a tutor for over 2 years at Black Hawk College, at the same time obtaining an Associates Degree. I attended Sarah Lawrence College, where I studied English and Spanish literature, Ancient Greek, history and philosophy. I graduated with an MFA in English from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop in May of 2008, and I am currently the Provost’s Post-Graduate Writing Fellow in fiction at the University of Iowa. I have three years of experience teaching college students in English and creative writing. I have also occasionally tutored students at the University of Iowa in Ancient Greek.
