Everyone can learn - it just takes the right presentation!

I am a behavioral specialist with 12 years of experience working with individuals between the ages of 2 and 19 who have been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD, Traumatic Brain Injury, emotional disturbance, Autism, Downs Syndrome, and other developmental disorders. This is what I love doing, and I have the patience to reteach in multiple ways over multiple days. Over the past 5 years I have taught English Language Arts to sixth graders, and tutored in all 6th grade subject areas while using positive reinforcement to enhance productivity. In September, I will be sitting for the certification exam to become a board certified behavior analyst (BCBA). I believe that everyone can learn and everyone has their strengths. We just have to figure out how to let their inner scholar come out to play.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that teaching should be a collaborative process. The first step is to listen to the child and try to gain a sense of their own learning process. If you understand how the child learns, you will be better able to help him or her understand new concepts. I believe tutoring is invaluable in this regard, since it provides individual attention. Most classrooms are large, and ill-equipped to focus on each child's individual needs.
My tutoring began in high school, when I tutored younger students in any subject, from Math to English. I learned to love tutoring. I enjoy helping people to realize their full potential.
