A Little Bit About Me...

I have worked with elementary, high school, and college-aged students, providing instruction in subjects ranging from English to biology. I am comfortable teaching a group, but I also have ample experience working one-on-one with students. I believe that course material should engage students. I do not believe that rote memorization is practical in most real-world situations, and I prefer to provide instruction in a manner that makes learning interesting and fun. This typically results in students who retain information long after a test is over.
I attended Thomas More College on an academic scholarship and graduated with honors in the spring of 2011 with a BA in Environmental Science. Presently, I am pursuing a Master of Biology degree at the University of Cincinnati, where I hold a University Graduate Scholarship as well as a Yates Scholarship. I worked as a private tutor from 20 ... read more

Before heading over to college, I tutored children whose ages range from pre-school to high school. I tutored them in math, science, grammar, and piano. Class size ranged from 1 to 15. During the years, we have formed a strong bond, and I make it a point in my return trips home to see them! As a result, I form a connection with those that I tutor in order to understand their way of thinking and maximize learning. Each child is unique, and I try my hardest to fit the child’s needs. If your child is active, that is okay! I am enthusiastic and energetic. If your child is shy, that is okay! I am friendly and light-hearted. While in college, I focused on tutoring elementary and middle schoolers in math, science, and grammar. Moreover, I tutored college students in general chemistry, biology, and physics. Therefore, I have the ability to teach children who have a wide range of educational b ... read more

Biology is one of my top subjects! I received my Masters in Molecular and Cellular Biology. Taught two sections of an Introductory Biology Laboratory and was a Teaching Assistant in Cellular Biology.

I tailor my teaching to the needs of my students. I like using their textbooks and assigning problems to do from the book since that will be material most likely tested. I also go over their homework assignments given by the instructor and can make up problems if the student requires the extra practice.
I have taught two sections of an introductory biology laboratory (Bio181) at the University of Arizona in 2011. Each section is three hours long and I prepare the lectures and weekly quizzes. I also grade lab reports, computer assignments, lab projects and hold office hours for two hours each week. In addition, I attend a three-hour organizational weekly meeting with other instructors and the course director (Bruce Patterson). I have also been a teaching assistant for Cell Biology (MCB410). I attended all lectures, held office hours each week, graded quizzes and exams. ... read more

I am available to help your child find academic success. I am patient, easy going, and considerate. I worked in the tutoring section of both East Tennessee State University and Southern State Community College. I did not major in the subjects which I listed (I minored in Chemistry), but I do have experience as tutor. At Southern State, I tutored basic math and Algebra Courses to adult students who had been out of school for several years. At East Tennessee State University, I tudored freshman in the subjects of Chemisty and Physics when I was a Senior. I refreshed my skills in Chemistry last year when my daughter enrolled in an online AP Chemistry class. She was given very little instruction from her online teacher via email, so I became her teacher after a few weeks reviewing the subject.

A Little Bit About Me...

I’m a strong believer in the learner centered knowledge building. Not all learners are the same, and that means not all facilitation should be same. My goal is to establish a relationship with learner that enables me to transfer knowledge in a meaningful way to them. I like to meet the learner where they are, and allow for them to explore, and be challenged through the constructivist approach to learning. As part of the learning process, I am a big supporter of reflection and emotional engagement. These methods to a good and effective knowledge building process can be implemented in various environments and spaces.
Being raised in a home with educators greatly influenced who I am, and how I view the building of knowledge. While I earned my B.S in psychology and minored in business, I participated in after school tutoring programs for a local public school. My studies of c ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I don't think I have really developed a "unique style" by only teaching a year or so. I am a very patient person and I really like to see the "sparkle" in a students eye, when they truly understand something for the 1st time. I like to explain a concept and then give the student a problem and see if they get it. If not, I will go over as many times necessary...until they understand the material.
I have a recent Bachelor's in Accounting, as well as 15+ years of accounting experience in both private and non-profit settings. While working at Thornhill Education Center, I had the opportunity to work with students and help teach GED classes. My main focus was math. I also had the opportunity to teach a level 1 accounting class for community education.
