Teaching young people involves an understanding of the student, what they value and a desire to help them gain the ability to learn in a way that they can respect and embrace. Events must be explained in the context in which they occured. The points of view of all parties must be respected even when they are faulty. Children must be taught why and not just what... The thought process must be matured and methodical so that it can be used as a template that can be applied to a wide range of ... read more

I have always enjoyed teaching at any level. One of my strengths is to recognize the personality of the student and contour my style to that particular personality. In a class room setting, I would focus on a student that I feel is shy and afraid to speak. I would gently get them involved with simple questions to build their confidence so that others in the same realm would understand and overcome the fear associat ... read more

I use all methods of second language acquisition in my teaching. Most of the exercises I use to help beginning are communicative methods. It's better to get them speaking and writing and build their confidence than to just use rote memorization or drills. If I think the audio-lingual method will help a more advanced student, I suggest and practice this method with them. If reading in the language with the translation side by side helps, we will practice that. I bear all forms of cognitive learning in mind when tutoring a student. I strive to help in whatever way I can.
As a graduate teaching associate at the Ohio State University and having studied Business Administration at the University of Applied Sciences of Aachen, I have practical experience dealing with all forms of parlance in the German language. A Little Bit About Me...

During the last 10 years I have worked with all levels of students, preschool through college levels. These areas include reading, math, english, psychology, science and social studies. I am a self starter and have worked with parents when I owned/operated my private daycare. I have since then worked with children in low poverty communities in Atlanta Georgia, in order to provide an alternative method to learning to ensure that children receive the appropriate level of understanding of various subjects.
What I have learned working with students is that many do not learn in the same manner. I beleive in what is called top process learning. Given the student a concept and allowing them to explore the possibilities of how one arrives at such a concept has allowed deeper critical thinking and strategic planning. However, this method is not predominately taught in Georgia education ... read more

A commercial banker by trade, I currently teach two (2) classes on financial literacy skills to legal immigrant refugees from India, Burma, and Cuba. This volunteer work is offered through the Catholic Charities arm of the Archdiocese of Atlanta. I started teaching these classes roughly six (6) months ago on a volunteer basis, and the classes have been very well received thus far. The first class is entitled "Introduction to Banking", and teaches the fundamentals of personal banking (how to open a checking account, how to write a check, etc.). The second class is focused on family budget planning. Each class is roughly 1.5 - 2 hours in length, depending on the number of questions asked by the students. In addition to the above, I have tutored a foreign immigrant from Turkey in pre-calculus and college-level English. I tutored this student on a volunteer basis for roughly two ... read more

I enjoy teaching students of all ages.I do not have a set teaching style. I use several methods during our tutoring sessions. I believe that each student is unique and they have their own method of learning information. I help the student identify this method and we work together to expand the student’s knowledge in the given subject. My students inspire and motivate me and I encourage them to continue using what they have learned from our tutoring sessions into their daily lives.

As a student teacher at the end of my college experience, I came to realize that my strengths lay in small group instruction and tutoring, rather than in regular classroom teaching. I passed both Praxis exams in the state of New Hampshire. I worked with at-risk teenaged girls in a Shelter as a classroom aide and tutor for one year. I have tutored students in basic math skills, language arts, and social studies.
I have a lot of experience in helping children to learn and I have a great rapport with children. I want to help children realize that getting an education can be fun and interesting. I understand that children have different styles of learning and I strive to learn what works best for each individual. I think that many times students who have difficulties learning simply need some one on one attention to help them focus and achieve their best. Through patience and diligenc ... read more

All throughout my school years, I was a highly motivated student. I was in the accelerated programs from first grade to my senior year in high school. During high school I was not only in the accelerated english program, I also took many Advanced Placement classes and was on the accelerated math track. I was even able to finish my bachelor degree in International Affairs in three years. During my senior year in high school, I tutored my student in all of his subjects (math, social studies, science, and english). When in college, I led study groups in college and tutored a few of my fellow classmates, mainly in history and english.
I have always had an avid love of learning. I attempt to make my students love it too. I try to incorporate things the students like into the lessons (for example, I used football scoring to explain mathematic concepts to a 10 year old boy). I also am a f ... read more

I use a hands-on approach when teaching my students. I believe the only way to master anything is by doing it. I encourage my students to incorporate their ideas, and give me ideas as well, so that I may cater to his/her learning style. I am patient, nurturing, and very understanding that not everyone catches everything the first time, but with patience, diligence, and much practice we can all succeed at any task at hand. For these reasons I do not discourage students from making mistakes, but encourage them to learn from those mistakes, and seize every opportunity. In the end I guarantee that your still will love learning, master his/her subject, and may even be able to tutor others in the same area!
Throughout all of my years of schooling, I have always been a high-achieve and always driven myself to exceed expectations. Beginning in high school, I tutored all high school math-wh ... read more

As an undergraduate student I was always in the top ten percentile of my math, chemistry and biology classes, and as a result, I tutored fellow college students in those respective subjects. After earning my bachelor degree in biology, I worked as an educator at the South Carolina Aquarium where I taught interactive classes to kindergarten, middle school and high school students. I also worked for the Leadership Development Program at the College of Charleston where I co-facilitated student leadership classes. And most recently, while in graduate school I held a teaching assistant position and tutored freshman and sophomore college students in topics related to international development.
My teaching style is based on the student’s learning style. Each child is different and may require different teaching methods to facilitate learning. Some children are more visual and may require ... read more
