As a student, I am driven to understand the nature of things. As a teacher, I work to help others understand them. I have earned a bachelor's degree in computer science because computers are the tool with the most potential to enable us to understand the world, second only to the mind. My philosophy of teaching is to train the student to think like a scientist and/or mathematician. It is not just about getting the right answer but rather understanding the fundamental principals of a subject. This enables the student to try previously unseen problems and succeed. I also believe in varying the techniques used. If a student has trouble with their teacher or text books approach, a different method should be explored. Imparting true understanding is a satisfying experience that I always aim for.

While at Syracuse I was a student-teacher for a full year in both a Suburban, 8th grade classroom and Urban, 9-11th grade classrooms.
