A Little Bit About Me...

Being a mother of teenagers gives me an edge as a teacher. I have tremendous patience and understanding of the daily lives of young people. I try to make my students feel comfortable and safe in my classroom, if a student does not feel comfortable, they will find it hard to open up to a learning environment. My philosophy is learning does not have to be painful.
As a mother of three teenagers, i decided to go back to school and fulfill my lifelong dream of becoming a high school English teacher. A Little Bit About Me...

Having a degree in Philosophy & Religion has many advantages in teaching. I have found to better understand a subject it is best to go and study many different resources for that subject, a macro-view. However the complicated subject is, a person who knows that subject will be able to present it in a simple concise manner. With this approach I am able to study and present a variety of subjects in a concise but exciting manner. The full grasps of studying P&R encompasses many sub fields of study : i.e. history, psychology, sociology, pretty much all the liberal arts.
My teaching style would best be described as conversational at best, drawing out of the student, their knowledge or lack of knowledge. I have taught my two honors student sons that I add to their body of knowledge and they are to coalesce the information to their understanding.

Each individual learns in different ways, some are tactile learners, some are visual, and some are auditory learners. In mathematics, I was taught early on that in order to prove something you need three things: 1. facts that are obvious/self-evident 2. relate them in a logical way 3. frame these facts and their relationships inside of a theory Engineering is just applied mathematics. I believe that anyone can do it, at their level; the key for an educator is to have sufficient people skills to diagnose the problem areas a given student might have and then address those in the context of solving a given problem.
During my time at NC State, I worked at the mathematics laboratory for two years. In that short amount of time, I learned as much as I taught.
