I have had a variety of experiences as a teacher. I, at first, worked as a substitute for about 3 years. Then I worked as a 3rd-grade teacher in a private school for one year. Because of enrollment that position was cut. I went back to subbing for a time. From 2004-2009 I have worked for the Dallas School District as a personal tutor. I primarily worked with middle school-high school students. I tutored them both at home and at a computer lab on an internet program. That position was cut because of budget cuts. I am able to tutor in all basic subjects.

A Little Bit About Me...

After returning to college to get my teaching certificate I taught 5th grade for one year. I then taught at a high school in Salinas, California for four years. As an elementary teacher I taught all subjects except science. I taught various history and social studies classes to the high school students including World History, honors U.S. History, Psychology and Current Events. I left teaching in 1992 to attend law school but have volunteered as a mentor on several occasions which has allowed me the opportunity to tutor children in both elementary and middle school.

Yet the child who discovers his/her fascination with language at the age of eight is no less gifted. The use of PowerPoint presentations to illustrate the material utilizes a technology component which I find useful. Strategies for special needs students would include making sure to see if they are a visual, auditory, or sensory learner and teach to those senses. I would need to tailor my lesson plans by making the information more interactive for students who have special needs or are English language learners to make sure that they are learning the information.
