A Little Bit About Me...

I completed my MBA and Juris Doctorate while employed full time, married with two children. It has given me insight into the learning process and what is or isn't a distraction. I have taught over 20 years in several community colleges a full range of business subjects while employed in the accounting function. In addition, I published and managed a Law Review and later a sports magazine nationally.
I enjoy use of the Socratic Method but recognize that in the sciences a more pragmatic process is required. Over the years I have concluded that good teaching requires good analysis of which particular approach works for a student and then alter the materials to fit the need.

I have always had a strong drive for educational excellence. My two degrees have helped me become successful in my career as an Operations Manager for an international, multi-million dollar company. While earning my BA in Liberal Studies I have increased my grammatical skills while writing many research papers for an array of subjects. My MBA has allowed me to develop better analytical skills and improve my “out-side-the-box” thinking. Both degrees have helped me become a more confident public speaker.
I have always had a desire to work with children. I have had the opportunity to mentor children while coaching youth sports, tutoring one-on-one, and interning at an elementary school. I am extremely patient, easy to work with and understand that all people have different learning styles. My goal is to guide your student to success and I believe it can be achieved through dedi ... read more

My teaching style and influence on children is from a positive nature. I always encourage the individual to feel comfortable to make mistakes. I believe in making mistakes and knowing what was done wrong a person can learn and grow. My confident friendly personality allows children to feel at ease, as I am providing a respectful, patient, and constructive learning environment. I believe all children are able to achieve better results with a little practice and different ways to view the same material. I strive to allow my students to become successful while having fun learning. I wish for them to have a positive learning experience as I have myself.
My education experience has led me to have a passion to learn. I always had the pleasure to tutor my peers throughout my school years. I love helping and watching people get to the moment where everything is becomes clear. I have grad ... read more

I consider my ability to observe and adapt to situations that may not be considered ordinary as an advantage. Through education, I have developed techniques that enhance my analytical and critical thinking skills. My closest linguistic “friends” in life are How, What, When, Where, Who, and Why. With their help and the help of others, I know I will succeed as a teacher and student. I am a perpetual pupil and will remain so until the end. I also draw upon my experiences as a husband, parent, son, brother, friend, and associate when assessing interactions and conversations with those individuals I come into contact with on a daily basis. We are all here and together for such a short time, and time is an irreplaceable asset. Therefore, it only stands to reason that moments of learning should not be wasted. I consider teaching to be a privilege as well as a serious responsibility, and I will ... read more

I use different styles depending on the student. For example, my nephew needs visual and audio ques to learn. I think you need to see what style is best for the style. I am familiar with to write lesson plans and how to adapt them when needed.
I have worked as a subsitute teacher in both the Riverside Unified and San Bernardino Unified School Districts. I have also done volunteer work in the San Bernardino Unified School District. I also am the person who helps my developmentally delayed nephew with his work.

I have had a thirst for helping others at an early age. From the age of 15 I have volunteered to teach youth and the majority of my professional background has been in tutoring and mentoring. For the past two years I have worked as a literacy teacher to incarcerated youth and was measured monthly on accuracy. Each of my students increased at least 2 grade levels within only 20hours of class. I am also working now part-time with a nationally known SAT test prep company doing tutoring as well. I am comfortable tutoring literacy, English, grammar, mathematics and all SAT prep.
I am a natural teacher. I have a gift for being able to explain to someone the "why" rather than the notion "it is just because". I feel it is the duty of teachers and tutors to deliver information in a way that allows each student to fully grasp the concept. My best way to know that I have done my job is if th ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a Merchant Marine and Chief Steward I have taught, tutored, or mentor kids of all ages and backgrounds. My passion when teaching is to try and breakdown the subject to it's most basic level. A level that the person being taught can understand. Having work with kids from different ethnic and educational backgrounds I find this to be very affective and productive. Also, not having been a great student in high school with dyslexia, I have been able to over come these short comings and graduate from collage with honors.
Find out what level the student is at, what their interest are, what the like about learning or hate about learning and go from their. As each person is different and each person learns in their own way. Learning is not hard, finding out how to learn is.

A Little Bit About Me...

Personally, I prefer hands on - lab style workshops - than endless lecturing and note taking. I like to grasp the student's maturity level and aptitude and go from there. All students need individualized attention, but it is also important to have team building skills inherent in the coursework so they learn to both help themselves and others. The first thing is to teach the love of learning, the second is 'how to learn,' and the third thing is the motivation to develop mastery. Most students do not learn how to study, learn how to learn, and if their parents are not educated, they usually never learn these skills.
Straight out of college, I began substitute teaching and then tutoring individuals. I specialized in English, reading skills, history, psychology, and counseling. Now, I'm a computer tutor, a technical writer on contract, and gone through countless hours on training for ... read more

I believe any child has the ability to do anything in the world if they are given the opportunity and necessary skills. Many times educators falter because they have been teaching so long that they forget a student’s mindset is different. I believe that a great educator will listen to the needs and strengths of the student directly from the student to help detect what is preventing the student from completely mastering a particular skill. This is why I incorporate all learning styles into my teaching not for the purpose of being redundant but to allocate the best learning style and expose the student to other undiscovered learning styles. My goal is to provide the best education experience for our future leaders.
Coming from a family of educators has greatly influenced my admiration and passion in education. This passion has in-turn helped me earn my bachelor in Criminal Justice an ... read more

More About This Tutor...

During my years as a student, it was something I excelled at. I did not have to typically study for hours to achieve success in retaining material. I tend to remember things easily and be good with educating others on subject matter. I have been a substitute teacher and have mentored elementary through middle school age children. When I graduated college with my Bachelor's of Science in Criminal Justice, I was a member of an International Honor Society as well as one only for Criminal Justice majors and graduated Summa Cum Laude.
My teaching style would be classified as patient. I was diagnosed with a learning disability myself when I was in third grade, so I know how differently children learn. I was lucky enough to have patient resource teachers to work with and allow me to find my way of learning the material led by them, of course. So I think tutoring is extremely important for ... read more
