A Little Bit About Me...

As a graduate of Berea College, I was given an opportunity to utilize the skills I learned at that institution. I have earned a bachelor degree in Psychology, which help me hone the statistical and research knowledge I now have. I am going to continue my work in psychology to work toward my master's degree at EKU in general psychology. I not only have an educational background in statistics and SPSS, but I have utilized my skills in several research projects and have helped others understand statistical concepts and how to use SPSS. I was a teaching assistant for several psychology research classes at Berea College for a year and a half.

I begin by establishing rapport with the student, and usually I prefer a lighthearted, encouraging style of interaction. I believe every student is capable of learning, but may not have been shown the strategies and skills that will best suit them. I like to help the student identify their learning style, and then teach using strategies that will coincide with that learning style. Often when the student has been taught some different strategies for learning, s/he is more capable of tackling new lessons without additional help. As a Peace Corps Volunteer in Costa Rica, I learned that our goal was to "work ourselves out of a job." That is always my goal as a teacher and tutor: to do my job so well that my services become unnecessary!
