A Little Bit About Me...

As a graduate in the field of Education, I have found my true passion in helping students reach their goals and achieve success. I have been working with children in different capacities from the preschool environment to the K-12 level, including working with students with developmental disabilities. Last school year I worked tutoring students who produced low test scores in order to help them raise their achievement test scores. I really enjoyed watching the students raise their comprehension skills in various areas such as; math, language arts, reading, phonics, etc. I believe my extensive background working with the youth of today would make me a great candidate to join your company!
Through my experiences working with children, I have learned to adapt my teaching styles to fit each students' individual needs. Many students learn through visual and tactile means, where as o ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I taught English as a second language to adults and children in Austria and Germany while living there (total 4 years). I speak fluent German and lived in Europe for a total of 13 years. In LA, I taught english to a number of Korean and Japanese young adults. I taught at Inlingua and WIFI Institute in Austria and at a business english school in Hamburg.
We play word games, read out loud, discuss cartoons and ask each other questions/answers. Try to vary up the hour. I am a very patient teacher and try to assess if the student is understanding all that I am teaching. I ask plenty of questions and try to get them to communicate with me and others in the group, if it's a class situation.

My background in tutoring includes ESL, elementary, middle school and college students. I have tutored predominately in Language Arts, which is my forte and passion. Since I am trilingual, I have naturally been drawn to tutoring ESL or non-native English speakers. I have tutored at the writing center at College of the Desert, part-time in the evenings. In addition, I have tutored two years in a row for the No Child Left Behind tutoring. Currently, I work as a library media technician at Truman Elementary School. I assist students with various library and media center related things such as learning software to finding library materials. I was recently awarded a grant to teach library classes after school, which was a big hit for the students who attended. Currently, I am writing a visually appealing and humorous book on learning the fundamentals of grammar. I was inspired by stu ... read more

I find the most useful way to instill knowledge is to reach that place where the student sees practical value in what he or she is learning. I always knew when the moment hit by the expressions on my students' faces. The students I taught were majoring in art and culinary skills, mostly. Consequently they saw little practical value in learning composition or understanding prepositions. I strived to help my students put theoretical classroom knowledge into context for the working world they would discover upon graduation. I believe in making abstract concepts become concrete applications that students can utilize in many areas of their lives.

I have been a teacher for 20 years. I love creating a learning environment for all students. My work ethics of hard work, compassion, caring, friendly, and accepting has molded many young minds. Curriculum is only as good as the educator administrating it. A well managed classroom is a priority, respect for all individuals, and monitoring learning are important bench marks for students to achieve their potential.
I began my career as an interior designer with a BA in Fine Arts and Certificate of Design. My love for learning brought me to earn a Master's Degree on scholarship in teaching. This degree prepared me to teach pre-k students to eighth grade. In order to teach all students I acquired an endorsement of English as a second language and a gifted endorsement. I have tutored high school students at San Gorgonio High School in a variety of subjects for 6 months. In addition, I worked as an independent English tutor in Buenos Aires, Argentina for 6 months. When I was in high school I did two years of tutoring at Franklin Elementary. I'm currently employed at Club Z Tutoring and attend University of Redlands to obtain my teaching credential.
I can teach children of all ages. I believe it is easiest to build rapport with the student before teaching them. If there is a good relationship between the student and teacher then it is easier to teach and learn. I use different styles of teaching that address all types of learners. I will incorporate visual aids, music, hand movements and other techniques to enhance the students retention of information. I have patience and like to use positive feedback to motivate my students.

I use a cross-cultural approach to teaching, along with counseling techniques that facilitate language learning and motivate students. I am very flexible when it comes to teaching, and I am able to adapt and use any materials that may reinforce academic skills and facilitate students' learning styles.
