My comments on tutoring Creative Writing : I am a semi-professional writer and am working on my first novel. I have written poems and many articles on the Internet. Creative writing has always been an integral part of my classroom.

I am a retired elementary school teacher and taught for over 15 years in the St. Louis area public/private schools. I teach each person on an individual level. There are several reasons behind this. Some of them are: people have different strengths and weaknesses, people learn at quicker/slower rates than others, some individuals are more adept at one subject matter than another, and the motivation of the individual varies greatly from person to person. I try to teach by example. I also believe in constructive criticism and use positive reinforcement. I always try to give examples and "paint a picture" so that the person clearly understands the subject being taught. I believe that all children want and try to do their best, but sometimes need an extra push. I think it is necessary to use the appropriate curriculum, but to find out what teaching method works best for each student as we all learn differently. It is also important for each child/student to have some flexibility in what they learn in order to express their individuality and own creativity.
