From Russia, learned English in America, as well as Spanish. Took lessons in college, received straight "A"s in all. Language is very much based on experience, therefore I know how to teach because that is how I learned. If needed, before the first tutoring session, I can provide my lesson plan. However, each student is very different from each other and I hope he/she is willing to learn, because I am here to teach and guarantee success.

I am currently an English major with a concentration in Creative Writing and a minor in Education. I will be graduating this fall. Fall of 2014 I spent the semester tutoring a 12 y.o. girl in the English Language. This meant reading stories and answering questions about them, going over vocabulary, and learning new concepts. I have worked with children from elementary school through high school.

I have excellent grammar and proofreading skills, and have tutored and assisted dozens of students and colleagues in all levels and types of writing. I have enjoyed each of my teaching and tutoring roles very much. Teaching young people is particulaly rewarding as it provides the opportunity to motovate and make a positive impact on the lives of people who have a long future to give back to society.
I have over 37 years experience managing peoply in Supply Chain management and material acquisition. In this role I designed and wrote courses. I follow the teaching strategy of Total Physical Response with commands, and TPR for stories. I find that this gets the students engaged with the foreign language, and they start communicating in Spanish faster than if other teaching styles or strategies were used. I have had good success with TPR and TPRS. The focus of this strategy is teaching language the way a child learns his/her own language, starting with commands, and adding nouns, and adjectives to the verbal commands. Then, we progress into stories, and students interact with the words and phrases of the stories.
I have always been fascinated with the Spanish language: its phonology, expressions, and many forms of the Spanish language. That love of Spanish caused me to formally study the language, and earn a B.A. and an M.A. in Spanish. My interest in Spanish also took me to Paraguay, and Mexico, where I lived for over th ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I love working with children of all ages. I really like elementary age children. I have a hands-on approach to education. I want kids to get their hands into activities so that they may retain things longer. Now I do realize that not every student is hands-on. That is the responsibility of a teacher or tutor to find out what works for each student and set the envioronment for each learning experience.
I taught public school for 4 years before getting a masters degree in Religious Education with a Concentration in Childhood Education. I wanted to complement my undergraduate Elementary Education degree. Therefore, I choose the childhood education concentration at seminary. Then I was a Assoicate Pastor for Children for over 13 years where I supervised paid workers and planned activities for a children's ministry at a local church. I had to maintain a budget for this ministry ... read more

While earning my degree in English, I developed teaching and communication skills through both curricular and extra-curricular experiences. As an intended Secondary Education minor, I took many classes in education, including a middle and high school practicum. I also tutored students in grammar and composition, as well as foreign students in conversational English. I strongly considered teaching as a profession after graduation, but I wanted to earn my law degree first. While studying for the LSAT, I took an online course, mastering test-taking skills in all three parts: logic “games,” analytical reasoning, and reading comprehension. Graduating summa cum laude from the University of Florida, with extensive work in research, analysis, and writing, these skills came easy to me. Currently, I am a teaching assistant for Legal Writing and Research and thoroughly enjoy helping 1L’s also ... read more

I value shared goals for each session and encourage open conversation to cultivate ideas. Typically asked to assist on all levels of essay-writing, I start with the question and expectations. As an editor, I am extremely thorough. I make sure the student understands any edits that I mark are an attempt to help that student best learn. I walk through all edits with the student. I also take an approach of learning WITH the student and will not to lecture AT the student. Instead, I read with the student and ask questions. I am NEVER afraid to admit a lack of knowledge, and will work with the student to find the best possible solution to every problem. I never want my students to feel alone or abandoned in the learning process.

My philosophy of education focuses on student-centered learning. When students learn to be accountable for their own behavior and learning, they become practiced in valuable life-skills and become better prepared for the future. Further, I believe student-centered learning to be most effective, because students relish the idea of being entrusted to make their own decisions.
I am a licensed teacher and have a degree in English Education. My real-life experience has indoctrinated: strong organizational skills, teamwork and independent thinking. I have held several positions of responsibility and am self-motivated and self-directed.

As an undergraduate, I worked with the America Reads Program, mentoring a first grade student with reading difficulties. We met three days a week for an entire school year and progressed through successive lesson plans. I currently work as a mentor and advisor, for Florida State Universities Advising first program. On a daily basis, I interact with first time college students who are undecided on their course of study. We discuss collegiate and career objectives and generate a class schedule that reflects their interests as well as full fills their liberal studies requirements.
I strongly believe that the best quality a teacher can have is adaptability. As an instructor I have a responsibility to conform to my students learning styles. I have never met a student of any age who was unintelligent or incapable of reaching their academic goals. If a student is having difficulty in a su ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Learning has always been my goal. The hope of understanding is the light which illuminates this dark abyss of bureaucracy, strange smells and seeming disorder. I have read ceaselessly, watched ravenously, pondered to no end; a mind which never sleeps but continues seeking. I was Valedictorian of my middle school and graduated from FSU magna cum laude, but these are hot air to me; decorations. A's in school are just a by-product. I seek the real thing, which may not be found in this lifetime, in these bodies, with these minds, but I seek it anyway.
Throughout my existence I have found myself in the role of teacher. Whether it be academic or physical, I have been blessed with keen abilities, as well as an ease in communicating ideas. This, I believe, stems from a need to comprehend not just the action of something, but the reason for that action as well. By this, often I am able to s ... read more

While living overseas in both Ukraine and Mexico I taught ESL through a non-profit organization for 4 1/2 years. In addition to teaching beginning, intermediate, and advanced classes to students of all ages, I did extensive one on one tutoring with students, and eventually conducted all new teacher training. In Ukraine I volunteered at an orphanage where I taught Bible lessons to children who suffered with mental illnesses, learning disabilities, and other consequences of severe abuse. Upon my return to Florida, I joined my church staff as a minister to middle school students, and taught regularly for 1 ½ years. Additionally I have tutored students in ESL, Spanish, Russian, and GED preparation. As a student in FSU’s rigorous Russian Program I have continued to utilize and study learning techniques, literature, and grammar. Finally, other coursework has exposed me to a variety of di ... read more

I think I could be a considerate teacher. I listen well to what others have to say and ask, and I get my point across in a concise manner. I can work with small children and teenagers.
I do not have much experience in teaching and tutoring, but I would love to earn the experience. I am quite versed in classical literature and archaeological advancements. I have also learned to write research papers and essays well, so I have great grammatical skills. I know grammar well and can teach it with ease.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that every student can learn if I can adequately gauge what their abilities and intelligences are. Utilizing the multiple intelligences theory, my first session with my student will be concentrating on getting to know them as a worker and a person. I feel their outside experiences have just as much contribution as their classroom experiences. Your child and I, during this first session, will conduct a meet and greet of sorts and I will then map out an education success plan for them. It's through their needs and their cognitive abilities that I feel any student can be successful, and become a productive member of society.
I come from a public school background with an emphasis in higher learning and was twice selected as an AP Scholar with Honors for my work in the AP program. I am currently in the process of earning a Bachelors of Science in English Education with an emp ... read more
