I have zero formal teaching experience. However, I do have a great love for the beauty of math and a great interest in helping others reach their mathematic potential. I have spent a great deal of time with Calculus and Probability with a focus on detail and problem solving during the course of my actuarial studies, and my algebra skills are incidentally very good. My general approach is to focus on the logical foundations of a given subject and then to exercise that knowledge on practical applications. I first and foremost believe that every child can learn, and I refuse to entertain any idea that says otherwise. I have found that a constructivist approach works best for most children, and I will always try this approach first. I try to make learning as hands on and relevant to the real world as possible. I graduated from one of the top teaching schools in the nation (according to NCATE), and have a degree in elementary and special education. I am preparing to graduate in the spring of 2011 from Mississippi State University with a special education degree. I love hands-on learning, however some math topics don't always lend themselves to that. Geometry has always been my favorite topic to teach. I tend to be the traditional teacher in showing students how to do problems, but I try to make them understand the background. I bring in real life problems when I can.
