As a college graduate I have been driven to do my best to make sure every child is given the opportunity to have the very best education. I have earned my Bachelor degree in early childhood but do not hold a teacher's certificate. I have had extensitve training in edcuation courses, and love helping children read. I have been a part of a S.M.A.R.T (Start Making A Reader Today)program and have done some teaching to my boyfriend's niece who is now reading and writing. My easy going nature and fun personality allows me to make learning interesting. I have always believed that the best way for someone to learn is to put the information into terms that are understandable to them. In the past I have used illustrations, acted out scenes from battles, utilized initialisms, and made up songs to help students learn concepts. Connections between the content and familiar concepts are essential, and thus I find it very important to get to know the student and how they learn in order to best help them. Over the past ten years, I have worked for four school districts providing after-school tutoring to students with a learning disability. I have worked with all subject matters from preschool thru fifth grade. I have tutored my niece, nephew and cousin's children all thru elementary school. I have extensive experience in breaking down a skill and teaching it in smaller, more manageable pieces.
