A Little Bit About Me...

I love the field of education and am especially talented when it comes to working with elementary-aged students (all subjects). I enjoy tutoring older students in Spanish (I'm fluent), history, English, social studies, reading and E.S.L. My weak subjects for older students are math and science. I have a B.A. in Social Work with a Spanish minor. I have teaching certificates in elementary ed., special ed., teaching English as a 2nd Language & Spanish. A Little Bit About Me...

As a counselor for two summers at Camp Harlow (eugene, OR), I had my hands full playing, mentoring, and getting know up to twelve kids every week from the ages of 5-14. During this time, effective communication skills were paramount to success along with patience and listening. I work hard to communicate clearly and simply on an appropriate level. This has afforded me many opportunities to successfully mentor others. I believe learning is best done through teaching and dynamic communication. I have many years of experience working with students of all ages and abilities. I have taught in public schools, in private schools, with troubled and behavior problem youth, incarcerated youths (13-20 years of age), as well as home-schooled students, small group, and one-on-one. My teaching style is probably best suited to high school and college students. Although I successfully helped my own 3 children through their elementary school, high school and college years, my tutoring experience has been with older students. My wife is a Montessori trained teacher so I have absorbed that method for tutoring. Each student must be viewed as an individual to define the areas of weakness and fill them in. It is only when the student understands the basics of a subject that they can build a future in it.
Although I have earned my degree, BS in Psychology, my previous education includes 2 years at St. John's College in Santa Fe, New Mexico and 2 years of Engineering at Oregon State University.
