I tend to prefer lectures combined with textbook assignments as opposed to teaching either using films, powerpoint presentations or computers. I work best with motivated students, even those with lower abilities, though I teach exclusively at the high school level and above. When helping others, I do it two ways. I tell them how to do it and guide them through it. Other times, I show them how to do it. However, I do not do it for them. I would love to have the chance to help children succeed in their education! It would be an honor!

A Little Bit About Me...

As a central New York native I decided to stay in the area and go to college at Syracuse University. While at Syracuse I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree as well as an Art Education Initial certification degree. I enjoyed Syracuse so much that I stayed for my graduate work and earned my MS in Art Education. During my 5 years at Syracuse University I particiapated in various roles working with children. I was a literacy tutor, art workshop teacher, and summer camp teacher.

I believe children learn best when they can form a connection to their school work. Writing skills can be improved by using topics that are relevant to the student's life. When working on Reading skills I often use high interest topics such as the arts, sports, computers and science to encourage students to excel. I believe that there is no such thing as one size fits all teaching. Every student learns in a different way, at a different pace, and much of the fun for me in the process of teaching is improvisation: discovering which methods work best for each student. I believe foremost in teaching students to take responsibility for their own learning: I will teach how to learn, and I will try to develop a student's passion for a subject, but I expect students to work toward their own development.
