A Little Bit About Me...

I have 9 years of experience in teaching chemistry and physics at the high school level. Additionally, extensive experience teaching/tutoring a myriad of other subjects, such as, earth science, algebra, trigonometry, biology, CPR/first aid, GED prep and various adult education classes. I also have 15 years of practical laboratory experience as a laboratory chemist with increasing levels of responsibility.
To teach is to "impart knowledge or skill to somebody by instruction or example" while education is defined as "to develop mentally, morally, or aesthetically especially by instruction". I aspire to be an educator, as defined above. I have worked most of my adult life in education or journalism, and I was able to combine my two passions as a journalism professor at the college level for several years. I am currently a visiting lecturer in media studies at Bridgewater State College and a substitute teacher in local schools. I have taught social studies, business and typing in secondary schools. I very much have a "hands-on" teaching style. I am a visual learner myself, so my teaching style reflects that methodology. I explain the concept, demonstrate the process, reintroduce the steps and then allow my students to practice, practice, practice while offering guidance, suggestions, and positive reinforcement. I am very aware that all students are different. What I have come to learn is that with patience and the desire to truly want each child to succeed, all students can learn.
