A Little Bit About Me...

I have recently graduated from Purchase College with an Undergraduate degree in Music with a minor in English. During School I tutored students in English composition and edited students essays and papers during the entirety of my undergraduate education. I have also taught voice and music theory to students privately. In High-school I scored a 97 percent out of 100 on the English regents exam. I recently received a full scholarship to complete my masters at the University of Maryland.
I will fit my teaching to the client. If a student learns with visuals, I will use visuals. If a student is an aural learner, I will cater to that side. Upon my decision to return to college and obtain my BS degree, it was discovered that I possessed an uncanny, natural talent involving all aspects of the studies surrounding English. Reading, comprehension, symbolism, poetry, creative writing, poise, maturitym ,ect. After that placement exam, it was decided that I did not have to take any English courses, or, I would take more advanced courses. I did choose the latter. Throughout the last 10 years, I have helped my husband, brother, all of my children, etc. I have tutored them on how to write a well developed paper on their topic of choice, and have it read showing the expertise of the writer. I possess the same talents when it comes to proper grammar. I also teach Catholisim to the 8th grade once per week for 2 hours. I prepare them for the sacrament of confirmation. Because I enjoy and see the wonder in science and I like to show that to students. If they see a reason to want the knowledge, and see how it can expand their horizons, then they will be more open to learning. A common problem with individuals needing tutoring is that they sometimes do not think they have the "smarts" to learn the subject. My first objective is to show them they have the "stuff" to get it! Then I show them how it can be fun. This needs to be balanced with the practical need to get passing grades and complete the course work. My style is marked with a belief in the student and I encourage them and acknowledge their progress.
