My comments on tutoring ACT : I took prep classes for this test, but did the majority of studying alone. I took the test twice. The first I went in almost cold and got a 31, the second time with more studying I got a 34. 34 on Writing, 35 on Math, 36 on Reading, 32 on Science and a 9 on the Essay. From all of my preparation I know how to break down the test and explain the thinking behind scoring well.

I have helped my classmates and have had one official student as of this summer. However, I have learned how to explain concepts so that students dont just memorize, they will gain a thought process and applicable knowledge that will enable them to solve even the most complex problems. Having this mentality of preparation and success will being them to reach their goals.
Teaching new concepts, practice applying the new material, review, and more practice of the material to solidify the concepts.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have several years experience working with children and adults in the education field. The students I have taught at the college level ranged from late teens to early 30s. As I have worked with such a wide range of ages I am familiar with the needs of students in each age group I have taught. I work with the student to understand the areas in which they are not as strong or confident and work with them to develop a method of studying and learning that works best for them. I believe that one of the most beneficial methods of learning material is to relate the material to something the student may be more familiar with or something with which they can relate.

I started my career as a 5th grade teacher and became very interested in Special Ed. In 1973 I joined the West Park Union Free School a newly legislated Special Ed. school as a teacher/ administrator. I moved to Educational administration in 1986. I returned to the classroom in 1990. I retired from public education in 2003 and became a teacher for Our Lady of Lourdes HS. I created a special program there concentrating on learning disabilities, study skills and other problem areas. I am now again retired. I have taught on every level from preschool to college.
