After graduating from high school as valedictorian, I earned a Zoology BS and a Studio Art BA from SUNY Oswego, successfully completing English composition, speech, visual arts, biology, zoology, chemistry, Spanish, and calculus II courses, and graduated with a 3.76 GPA. Prior, I had taken and earned over a 90% in algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and AP calculus. While completing an MFA from WCSU, I began 3 years of service as a tutor with NY GEAR UP of The Research Foundation of SUNY, providing academic assistance to students, grades 9-12th in core and non-core subjects, as well as Regents, SAT, and ACT exam prep. All children are students; they can learn. The question is how best do they learn? I have used many differing styles from rote memorization through self-paced self-education. I encourage students to see the wonder and "mystery" (there really isn't any mystery) of Math, regardless of the level, in the real world. To that aid, I try to present real world problems at levels the student can understand. For lower level students, I investigate with them the development of the linear equations involved in setting up a relationship between two factors. A higher level student would solve multiple linear equations. A height vs. time linear relationship then can become quadratic, thus involving sports as an application.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been a full time tutor for the SUNY Research Foundation for four years and have tutored students in grades 6-9 in the areas of english,history,math and science.I am presently located at the Fort Plain High School with the research foundation program.Before this, I was a substitute teacher for three years in the following areas:math, science, english and history. This was also at the high school level.
I am a firm believer that tutoring students one-on-one is very beneficial and gives the student the added time and experience needed to excel in a certain subject. I also believe that each student has a different learning style which should be emphasized during tutoring sessions in order to make the learning experience easier,and more effective.
