I am an Indiana resident and professional since 1979; Spanish native speaker proficient in conversational, reading and writing Spanish. I volunteered in two Pan American Games (1979 and 1987) helping close the gap between English and Spanish athletes and personnel. I currently provide Spanish translation and interpreter assistance at my employer and my church on an as needed basis. I like to explain and teach as close as possible to "natural" Spanish.

I am currently a senior at Indiana Univeristy Kokomo. I will graduate in spring 2013 with a B.A. in Psychology and minors in Leadership Studies as well as International Studies/Relations. My college coursework has a focus on psychology but my degree requires me to have a very liberal education, as such, I have taken classes in english, history, sciences, economics, government, and many others. I graduated Cum Laude from Ball State with a double major in Visual Communication and Genetics. Both my parents were teachers and I often tutored my friends. I taught Swimming to children every summer for from 2001-2005, so I have experience with young children having a hard time paying attention. I have strong skills in science and math.
I like to work one-on-one with students. I can get a better feel for their learning style and therefore teach for that specific student. I first try to determine what level of knowledge my "students" had. Then, building on that, I would add layers until the group I was with understood the material. I would check with them frequently to make sure they understood what we just covered and I allowed questions at any time. If necessary, I would back up and try a different approach. My goal was to make sure they understood the material, whatever it took.
While I have no "official" teaching experience, I was frequently required to teach other members of the various teams I was on as well as people from other groups. This involved everything from tutorial presentations to a large and diverse group down to individual tutoring at the table in my office. Most people told me I was pretty good at it.

Every child wants to learn, although a more creative design may be needed to find a child's greatest potential. Patience, consideration, and encouraging words are simple tasks to help the self esteem of children in a child's education.
With a degree from Purdue University and continuing on to get a degree in engineering, I am engaged in many areas of science and math. Even at a young age I taught my younger sister basic mathematical and reading skills even before she entered kindergarten; we called it "school". I would characterize my teaching style as relationally oriented. I want the student to know that I care about him or her. I may not articulate as much, but I want the student to see that I am giving my time to serve their needs and not my own. Loosely speaking, I am also a proponent of multiple intelligences. The creative teacher can usually identify a way to relate material and content using a methodology that connects. My teaching style is based in facts. I philosophically reject radical post-modernity which posits that truth is a moving target. The student does not have the right to tell me that 1+1 = 3 because 1+1 = 2. I believe excellent teaching is rather like music or cooking – part art, part science. You don't get a beautiful wedding cake or a stunning symphony without a good measure of both.
