I like to teach using examples, either on a board to show a person step by step first. Then try to give the student examples to try to solve themselves. If this does not work I continue to breakdown a problem until we can clearly identify where the student is having trouble.
I have helped tutor friends’ kids on math from little school to high school. I have taken math all the way up to Differential equations and feel alright tutoring up to calculus one. I do not possess documented experience from schools or other organizations. I am a very highly motivated individual that does not mind helping others. I also have experience in teaching or helping coach little league sports educating kids on how to play games correctly. I have also been an assistant coach and helped out at Clinton Community College with girl’s softball under the head coach.

I have enjoyed tutoring math students who are advanced learners and students who are beginning their study of college-level math. No matter their capability, each student's success is very important to me. I have often met with students outside of tutoring sessions to explain a problem, and had e-mail conversations with several students to ensure they're understanding material. In tutoring sessions, I like making sure each student is actively participating in solving the problem, as opposed to simply giving them the right answer. I also think I'm able to simplify problems so that students aren't just "going through the motions" and are actually understanding how to solve a problem.
From high school to graduate school I have enjoyed being a scholar of many disciplines. In the last year, I took it upon myself to take what I know and teach it to young enthusiastic scholars, and i ... read more

My goal is to simply to help. Everyone can learn, even in subjects they find difficult. I understand from first-hand experience why people can find the sciences difficult, especially Math and Physics, because I myself have had great difficulty with them in the past. So I know how hard it is, and I know that its possible to succeed despite this. I think the key is for someone to find a method of studying that works for them, and everyone is different. Of course, another difficulty, especially with the harder sciences, is simply understanding the concepts, and its always useful to have someone other then the teacher to try and explain them in another, hopefully simpler, way.
I have always loved learning for its own sake, mostly because of my passion for reading as a child. Though 120 credits are required to graduate with a B.S. in Physics, I graduated with 238 credits, which I filled ... read more

This particular position interests me because I struggled with math through middle school and understand the frustration it can create for a student. Mathematics is now my strongest subject and I chose the profession of accounting to utilize those strengths. During my time at college, I helped other students with their studies in math and business, specifically statistics and quantitative analysis. Although this teaching experience was with college level students, I have held a summer job working with 8-12 year olds for the past four years. When I finish my Master’s Degree, I may consider teaching at an institution such as CCAC because I enjoy helping others with their education.
As a result of my post-high school studies in mathematics and business, I feel I'm suited to tutor people in those subjects. Statistics, quantitative methods, and analytical methods are my strongest s ... read more

Teaching art is one of my favorite ways to apply my abilities. I am particularly passionate about comics and giving children the tools to express themselves through art and self-publishing, skills I hope they apply on their own after I am finished teaching them. I believe in giving children the same respect as adults whenever possible. In my experience, developing an authentic rapport with children is more effective than talking down to them.
I have volunteered teaching grade-school age children in theater at Sweetwater Center for the Arts in Sewickley, PA and teaching creative writing to fifth-grade students at the William H. Ray School in Chicago, IL. I have had paid positions teaching a workshop in comics to middle-school students at Sewickley Academy and teaching drawing and basic self-publishing at an after-school program in West Lebanon, NH. I enjoy tutoring. To me, tutoring is the act of putting the finishing touches on what the teacher has already done. I prefer to teach by making connections between the things the student has already learned and using that knowledge to reinforce the weaker points. In one on one education, I prefer to tailor my sessions to the individual to better enable them to grasp the concepts.
In my three years at Guilford College, I was a TA for only one of them, but I enjoyed my work immensely. I have tutored for classes such as General Chemistry and Chemistry of Recycling. I have also tutored in English while doing volunteer work in China. In my education, I have developed enough skill in mathematics, chemistry and physics that I would be comfortable tutoring at the college sophomore level without preparation

I enjoy teaching and coaching. Why am I effective? I talk to - not at my pupils. My non-threatening and non-intimidating persona allows me to quickly develop a healthy rapport. By listening to my students' thought processes, I work within their frame of reference and then offer suggestions to guide them to a more appropriate path. Finally, I always encourage and am highly adept at objectively critiquing without offending.
My professional career began at Kaplan Test Prep in Manhattan. As a Test Prep Specialist, I lectured to hundreds of students the concepts tested and test-taking strategies required for the GMAT, LSAT, GRE & SAT standardized exams. I am a proponent of two things. First, encouragement. I always encourage the smallest success before I point out any failure. I never get frustrated or upset. I never get angry or disappointed. I know that encouragement breeds success, and success is the goal. Second, I speak to children as if they know what I mean. In other words, I never talk down to them. I almost feel as if I might treat kids more like adults than I treat adults.
I have always been very mathematical, even though I did little to cultivate it. One of my favorite classes in college was a statistics course I took, and the other was a logic class. I love to read books, and I enjoy chess as a hobby. Teaching is my true passion, and I regret leaving a teaching job to pursue a law degree, and I can only hope to pick up where I left off. I was a teacher/counselor at a teenage group home for 4 years. This was the most re ... read more
