A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy teaching adults as well as high school students. I do not have much training teaching below junior high; however, I am confident that I could successfully teach math or language. Although, I don't mind the traditional classroom setting, I am quite used to instructing on a one-to-one basis. Our GED programs are completely individualized for learners to move at their own pace, and I encourage this type of teaching style when manageable. Many of the students/adults that I have worked with have a learning disability of some sort, but I feel that I learn from each student just as much as they are learning from me. Teaching and helping others is a passion of mine. I love the feeling I get when I realize I have helped somebody solve a problem. It makes them feel accomplished, and myself as well. When I tutor, I let the student come to me with the problem, and instead of doing it for them, I will break it down into smaller steps they can do. I will use similar examples from a book or problems I make up to show them the basics of the problem. I want to provide students with a good, strong mathematical foundation. If their foundation is strong, then it will take a lot more to shake them. I want the students to solve the problem themselves with my assistance.
