A Little Bit About Me...

Prior to homeschooling my six children, I worked as a Research Assistant at the Schriner's Burn Institute in Boston, and then at Darmouth College Medical School in Hanover, NH. My science and laboratory background from UVM was beneficial to my success in these labs. I have now spent to past 18 years homeschooling my children. I attended Williams College in Williamstown Mass and studied economics, studio art, and creative writing. Following graduation with a BA degree in 1981, I worked for two seasons as a substitute high school and middle schoolteacher. I covered math, science, English, and the arts, as well as phys ed. Being a tutor for grades 6-8 was different because they had the basics. They needed to be informed and focused. A Little Bit About Me...

Once I am assigned a child I initally spend time going over a typical homework assignment to see where they are having some trouble. I get them to read out loud to me to see what their level of reading is. Some kids have problems sounding out the words or with simple rules of grammar. Once I see where they are at then I start bringing in some workbooks to help them in that particular area and apply that to their homework.
