Piano is one of my top subjects! I have played piano for 30+ years; took music classes in college and have played the organ and piano for church services, weddings, funerals, as well as performed as accompanist for High School Choir. I have been teaching piano for the past 10 years and cover music theory, performance level skills and music composition.

I have taught piano for the past 30 years to children and adult students. I have also been a performer as I have played piano as accompanist for High School Choir performances; I was pianist and organist at several churches for weekend services; I have played for weddings, funerals, baptisms and other services as needed. I am currently teaching piano lessons to elementary and high school students in my in-home studio.
My approach to teaching involves making sure that the children are enjoying the lessons. My lessons incorporate using proper position of the hands, finger technique and proper fingering for each song, learning to read the scales, treble clef and bass clef, and applying style, musicality and expression to each song. My technique and teaching style is very engaging for my students and makes music fun!

Never tutored before but I do help fellow peers and family members. I'm a Pre-English major and the University of North Texas, so I know a lot about English Literature. I made A's and B's in English my whole life, it is my favorite subject. Also, I'm good at remembering important facts about American History, I also made A's and B's in that subject.

I think it takes a lot for one teacher to reach all of types of students who are all at different levels of interest in the subject being taught as well as at different levels of understanding. However, I feel it is the teacher's responsibility to give them all equal opportunity to learn. It is not just about grades and assignments, that is just the means to an end, but it is about learning. In order for the students to learn, the teacher needs to be passionate about the students as well as the subject that is being taught. That will instill in the students a desire to learn and understand.

I enjoy helping people to learn. Aside from knowledge base expertise, certain qualities exemplify a good tutor: patience and being a good listener. Understanding a student’s learning strategies is foundational and incorporates good listening qualities. A desirable outcome will then be more achievable for the student. I try to let my student, regardless of age/grade, not feel intimidated or unintelligent regarding a certain subject or problem. This subsequently allows him or her to open up and feel comfortable as we work together to solve the problem. I encourage students to focus and have a positive attitude.
