I tend to be a hands-on teacher. I enjoy watching the light bulb "light up" when a new skill is understood. A Little Bit About Me...

I have been in accounting and finance since my graduation from UW-Whitewater in 1985. I have worked in public accounting, manufacturing and in non-profit organizations. I believe am would be a good fit teaching high school accounting, college intro to accounting, intro to cost accounting, economics, or intro to finance. Other areas are dependent upon the subject matter. My work experience has also enabled me to be proficient using the MS Office suite, particularly Excel.
While I have not any direct teaching experience, save for helping my children with their homework, I can say that I have patience, an even-tempered demeanor, and the desire to not quit until the student understands the material being covered. Free and unconstrained autobiographical writing is one of the best ways to coax a student insecure about his or her writing skills into putting into words intense experiences from their own life. I tell my students to just tell me in their own words what they are trying to say. When they speak aloud, the words flow, and then I say, "There is your opening sentence right there. Quick! Write it down." At other times, I ask them to pretend that they are really someone else, an actor in a television show, for example, and I have them imagine that the character, not they themselves, are speaking. This releases the student to let go of inhibitions and let the film roll "for the character" and then they stop focusing on themselves.

Where I find the problem I would show them the correct ways to approach a problem and prove it to them or use other methods to help them understand how the concepts work.
