After graduating with a BA in Creative Writing, I spent two years teaching adult literacy classes until 1997, when I stayed home to raise my family. During that time, I attended graduate school part time until I earned my MAT in Education in 2006. Not long after graduation, I taught English 11, 12, and 12AP at East Islip High School, then tutored and taught College Writing through SUNY Empire State.
