I am working toward a nursing degree and intend to complete a degree in mathematics education for high school ages. My past tutoring experience has included all high school math and Calculus 1 for college, for science I have experience in tutoring chemistry primarily. More About This Tutor...

Science is similar to math where it is important to practice problems. I mostly tutor Organic Chemistry, in which I prefer to help individuals work out extra practice problems (or those assigned by the teacher) to practice concepts. I have a similar approach in the other subjects I tutor. It is best in science to work out hard problems outside of class because then it reviews all concepts needed to answer these problems on a test. My students always do much better after a tutor session with me because of this. It is also a little more exciting than simply summarizing a teacher's lecture.
I am studying Cellular and Molecular Biology at University of Cincinnati. I will graduate in May 2015. I have taken and excelled at Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Cell Structure and Function, Genetics, Biology, Ecology/Evolution. I have also taken math through Applied Calculus I. I was awarded Unive ... read more

I believe that all students have the right to a quality education and deserve opportunities to reach their maximum academic potential before graduating high school. While some students may reach their potential in a school environment alone, other students need extra support to meet their individual needs. Throughout my teaching and tutoring experiences I have made it a priority to customize learning plans in order to fit the individual needs of students. As a tutor, I look forward to working one-on-one with a student to encourage the student, build upon their knowledge level and academic skills, and to heighten his/her confidence as a learner.
During the past four years, I have tutored students in all subjects. During my collegiate years at Bucknell University, I majored in Biology and minored in Education and Philosophy. I also spent a few hours a week tutoring students of all ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I take the necessary time to learn the behavior and learning ability of the child in order to customize a teaching style that will be most beneficial. I believe that the most effective type of relationship between a teacher and a student is friendship to reduce any anxieties that may otherwise hinder the child’s progress. I am calm, well mannered, kind and devoted to the success of others. Teachers should be firm but not intimidating to the child. The learning environment should be safe, stress free and comfortable and above all positive. I have a strong belief that since children will be leading future generations then they need the proper skills to be able to solve tomorrow’s problems.
Throughout my high school career I have been devoted to academic success of my fellow classmates as well as my self. I continued this attitude in the accomplishment of achieving a BS degree in biol ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

In high school I tutored middle school and elemetary school aged children in reading, math, and chemistry. In college I tutored other peers in history, psychology, Spanish, and math. My current position is in psychology/engineering research. I have learned a wide variety of subjects due to my past experience and my everyday working experience continues to be a great learning environment. I also currently work part-time as a Pharmacy Technician for the past 3 years. I loved my time spent tutoring in the past.
I love teaching and working with others, especially children. I first like to start with finding out where the child is confused by going over and re-teaching past assignments that were misunderstood. I like to go over past tests and make sure they understand what they missed and teach them the correct answer. I believe that this is very important so they can grasp future mater ... read more

Throughout my undergraduate studies at the University of Illinois, I developed a passion for teaching and helping others achieve the academic success that I enjoyed. I tutored during each of my final three years, mostly in the various science classes that I took. During the past year, I have been teaching the Physics section of the MCAT for the Princeton Review, a nationwide test prep company. I have also tutored for a couple different companies, ranging from Geometry and Algebra to Organic Chemistry.
I have always felt that tutoring should offer a much more laid-back approach at getting concepts across to students. This is a chance to learn material in an environment that doesn't bear the pressures and stresses of the classroom and achieving a certain grade. Also as opposed to a classroom, I feel that the student should have the floor. This is their time to ask questions and ... read more

Teaching children and adults is my life's work. I believe not only can all children learn but I believe all children can excel, if given the motivation and inspiration. I also believe that if children learn to love learning, they will excel in all that they strive to achieve. I believe in making learning relevant and interesting. I am adaptable in my style and approach in education. Due to the fact that our children are all unique, I believe their educators should develop, within their own styles, an approach that is unique for each of their students. I hold high expectations for each of my students but all of my expectations are attainable for the student and I help them to achieve those expectations in excellence.
I have always worked well with children because I enjoy their capacity to learn. I am drawn to students who feel they are incapable of excelling in subject areas ... read more

In my 6 years of teaching experience I’ve come to find out that there is no such thing as a “stupid question.” Each child or adult has a specific way of learning according to their own character. That’s the reason some are faster to learn mathematical concepts while others are faster in literary concepts. I believe in going slow and asking my students to explain what they’ve learned in their own words. If they can do this easily it means they have mastered the concepts. I usually encourage pre-reading before tutoring sessions. A student who has read the chapter ahead will absorb information more easily than one who has not read ahead.
I obtained a high honors degree (Magna Cum Laude) in Biology, with a minor in Chemistry in 2005. Due to an outstanding GPA (3.74/4.00), I began to teach even as an undergraduate student. I was hired by the Athletics Department to help my fellow studen ... read more
