A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that children must be engaged in the subject matter before successful learning takes place. Finding fun, interesting, and personal ways for the child to connect to the topic will truly allow them a chance to learn and retain information. I love finding different ways for individual learners to understand what they are being taught.
I am a senior in the Education program at Appalachian State University. As an Elementary Education major, I have worked closely with children from many age levels. I have participated in an after-school tutor/mentor program at Appalachian State in 2008. In 2009, I completed two internships while in the Education Program. One working with 2nd grade students and the other with 5th grade students. I have also taken many courses to understand context and teaching strategies in all subject areas.

My love for teaching is my driving force behind creatively introducing new interesting ways of teaching for all children to have the opportunity to achieve academically, physically, emotionally, and socially. I have earned a degree in dance/education and a Masters in Early Childhood Education. I have taught English grades 1-8. I focus my teaching on improving reading comprehension skills, standardized test taking strategies, and writing skills. I have implemented an organized reading program and an Early Intervention Program. I have also supervised after school tutorial and arts program for fifteen years.
