My training is in philosophy, so I tend to focus on helping students develop strong reasoning/arguing skills and a precise voice. I find that these skills, which are heavily emphasized in philosophical writing, carry over well into all forms of academic writing.

My comments on tutoring Literature : I am licensed in the state of Massachusetts to teach English and Literature grades 8-12.

I believe in identifying where a student lies on the subject he/she is studying before going further. The advantage of one on one tutoring compared to classroom is that the lesson can be based around where the student’s strengths and weaknesses are rather than a blanket method. I also believe that the skills used in English can be best practiced and analyzed through writing rather than worksheets and tests. Therefore, I believe in having the student write on a variety of subjects and working through these pieces to show where they can improve.
