I believe that in order to be an outstanding teacher one must exhibit a plethora of skills. For instance one must be able to multi-task and integrate many different occupations into the incredible job of being a teacher. You must be a police officer in that you have to be able to diffuse arguments if they arise (and they will). You must be a doctor, in that you must be able to apply bandages to minor injuries that can result from accidents during recess. You must be a judge, meaning that as a teacher one must always be as fair and just as possible. You must be a referee, if you decide to use education games into to enhance lessons, you as the teacher or in this case the referee must be able to run the game. You must be an interpreter; a teacher should always be clear and precise in giving directions, rules, and procedures.

I am an innovative, flexible, and patient individual. I am excited to work with students helping them to succeed in all that they do. As for a specific teaching style, I beleive that teachers should adapt how they teach. This ability to change is what allows all students to learn no matter past experiences in a given subject.

A Little Bit About Me...

I always remember having a passion for education, for example my favorite game as a child was school where I got to be the teacher. Thus, I thought I had found my niche once I became a certified schoolteacher and secured my first teaching assignment. I was enamored with my students and the learning process. However, my enthusiasm quickly dissipated when the reality of “schooling” was revealed. I no longer felt joy, but heartache at the systemic annihilation of inner-city children. However, one thing inspired me to keep coming to teach, day after day, despite the school’s limited supplies, lack of safety, and irreverence for aesthetics; it was the will and determination of my students. They came to school day after day, excited to just learn and receive reassurance that education is liberating and knowledge is power. It was with these students in mind, along with my own children an ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I like to teach using examples, either on a board to show a person step by step first. Then try to give the student examples to try to solve themselves. If this does not work I continue to breakdown a problem until we can clearly identify where the student is having trouble.
I have helped tutor friends’ kids on math from little school to high school. I have taken math all the way up to Differential equations and feel alright tutoring up to calculus one. I also have experience in teaching or helping coach little league sports educating kids on how to play games correctly. I have also been an assistant coach and helped out at Clinton Community College with girl’s softball under the head coach.

I love working with children. Every child has their way of learning, and it just takes patience to find out how they process information. I am very patient, considerate, and positive that everyone can learn. I am a visual learner myself, and find that utilizing visual cues helps others with engraining information as well. I know the feeling of finally understanding a difficult concept, and I wish to help a child get that same feeling. It may take us some time, but together we can work towards obtaining that goal.
Presently, I am a student at Walden University working towards obtaining a Ph.D. in Psychology. Since I had earned my BA’s in Psychology and Accounting, MA in Community Counseling, I firmly believe in the institution of learning. I have a diverse spectrum of knowledge from these disciplines. Being in college for four years exposed me to social environments that I normally wouldn't have been able to encounter on a day to day basis. Whether I was learning on my own, working with or helping fellow classmates, or even just observing how the professors worked with us, I was always learing new concepts or methods of how to interact with a wide variety of characteristics in a diverse group of people. And due to the difficulty of my major, I feel that by being able to communicate well with others in this area I could handle various other scenarios as well. I am highly self-motivated and enjoy sharing my knowledge and ideas with others.
When a question is asked, I am not going to simply just tell the student the answer. I would want them to think it out and try and figure it out for themselves. I would however guide them in the right direction and even ask them other quest ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that every child has the unalienable right to experience some success each and every day of their lives. My approach is hands-on, student centered and nurturing. I believe in learning by discovery and the use of manipulatives in a manner whereby the student learns without even knowing it. The discovery approach is best to grasping knowledge but to process any and all information is tantamount. Knowing what to do with the information is far more important than just possessing it. Therefore, my students need to learn how to utilize their knowledge by applying it a variety of situations for true understanding.
